PERSONAL STATEMENT I was raised in a doctors family in Chelyabinsk, Russia. From early childhood I dreamed of becoming a doctor. After completing Chelyabinsk High School #40 as a valedictorian I entered Chelyabinsk State Medical Institute. In 1977, I graduated from the Medical Institute with honors and became a doctor - resident at Chelyabinsk Regional Hospital # 1. After a short period of time I was offered a position as staff physician in the Internal Medicine department of this Hospital. It is considered one of the best hospitals in this region, served over 1200 bed and was affiliated with the State Medical Institute. In 1980 and 1987 I had specialization in Institute Endocrinology in Moscow. From 1982-1985 I was enrolled in a post- graduate program at Chelyabinsk State Medical Institute and performed research work in Immunology and Endocrinology. I published my candidate dissertation and eight articles concerning immunological factors in patients with diabetes mellitus. My articles were published in different medical magazines and conference theses in Chelyabinsk and Moscow. As a result of this research work, I was awarded the Ph.D. Diploma (1986, Moscow). In 1990 my family and I moved to America. Soon after our arrival in Dallas I started work as a laboratory technician at Presbyterian Hospital at Dallas (1990-1995), and as a Medical Assistant at Trinity Marsh Medical Clinic (1997-98). I was responsible for taking medical history, physical exam, ordering diagnostic tests, blood and urine tests, injections, immunization, EKG, spirometry . Since Sept 1998 to Jan 1999 I worked as physician-resident observer in Internal Medicine Department at Presbyterian Hospital at Dallas. Under attending doctors supervision I evaluated patients ER, ICU, floor units, hemodialysis and prepared several lectures on acute renal failure, lupus nephritis for other residents. Participated in all grand rounds, morning rounds, clininical meetings and presentation for residents.I love working with patients and trying to relieve their pain, suffering and desperation. I believe in treating patients with a caring attitude and gentle spirit. As doctors focusing on early detection and prevention I believe we can improve both the quality and longevity of our patients lives. After my residency, I would like to pursue a career where I would be able to combine practice with research. I would like to further my knowledge, training and experience in order to become an even better doctor. I want to be able to better help my patients so that they can lead longer more productive lives. In summery, I am a hard working and ambitious individual who has compassion for my patients. Both my personality and experience have reinforced my dedication to this exceptionally exciting field of medicine. Sincerely, Sofya Pugach | |||||||||||||||||||||||
